We occasionally get fishing boats fishing in the are of this dive site..this is outside the marine park so fishing is permitted...most are professional fishermen who do not damage the corals and know what they are doing...plus they do NOT use the three buoys that have been installed specifically for diving boats at this unique wall deep diving site.
This Eid on the 30th November a boat was tied up to the main dive siite buoy...overloaded with locals ALL fishing over the side plus they had put a huge monofilament net ALL OVER the reef...
They refused to move when we turned up to dive this spectacular site...this made the visiting divers angry as this was the only place they could get a deep technical dive in at the time....
We called the Navy and they told us that they would come out and ask them to move...this did not happen until later that afternoon...in the meantime the visiting divers to Aqaba had to dive somewhere else and not complete the training they had come to Aqaba for.. they are now headed to Dahab in Egypt were this bullshit does not occur!!
