International Clean Up Day September 2008
We decided to make a joint effort and organised a clean up dive with Divemasters and Instructors from all the diving centers in Aqaba.
A huge thanks must go to Steve Grace, PADI Course Director who chairs the Dive Center Focus Group and its main organiser Abdullah Momany from the Red Sea Dive Centre. So we visited a dive site that centers have been avoiding due to the amount of trash and fishing line on the site - despite being in the Marine Park where fishing is not permitted. The cleaning team was divided up into a line recovery team and trash collecting teams. Two truck loads of trash and several kilometres of nylon fishing line were retrieved. The event was also sponsored by JREDS the Jordan Royal Ecological Diving Society who provided the team with a Ramadan breakfast at Ali Baba's restaurant. JREDS are now sponsoring joint clean up activities once a month targeting different areas of the Marine Park.
