About this dive site

The reef is shaped like a rainbow and starts at about 6 m, dropping to 18 m. A deeper gulley runs down the north side and forms a wall. A telecommunications cable to Egypt runs down this gulley.

It is a particularly good night dive, with Spanish dancers, lobsters, moray eels and lionfish out and about, and the reef covered in feather stars. If you want to dive Rainbow Reef, do it at night. You can also visit the Cedar Pride at the deep end of the reef, which is spectacular at night. The dive is accessed from the shore, where there is a special kitting-up area. Night dives need 12 hours’ notice, Navy personnel must be present, and a minimum of four divers is required.

Best for: Night dives, all levels
