About this dive site
Created in 1996 when electrical cables were laid to Egypt, this site lies between Black Rock and Rainbow Reef. Four cables run out over the seabed, and the two to the north run through a deep canyon, hence the name. The reef has been shored up on either side to stop it collapsing, large steel netting covers the reef to the north and south, and corals are now growing through it. Large metal tubes straddle the canyon and have become a habitat for soft corals and sponges.
Access is by swimming south from the Black Rock mooring, exploring the reef on the way out and back. There is still some rubbish on the seabed, and our team removes more of it each time we dive here.
