New Technical Certs
Mick Lane reached the highest pinnacle in deep diving with PADI Tec Rec courses by completing his Tec Trmix course with us..course dives were completed down to 90m and a 100m dive is being planned. Amanda Krugen also completed her Tec Deep Instructor Course and Trimix Blender before leaving on a long journey back to the US via Europe.

They are back, the whole group have come to Aqaba again for a two week holiday. Scuba Diving for All are based in Ripon, UK and come to Dive Aqaba on a regular basis to give their students with various challenge a great experience in the Red Sea and visiting the famous sites in Jordan.

Our team of 8 divers removed 1567 items of trash from the seabed, mostly plastic the total weight was 40.5kgs. The Aqaba Marine Park provided trash bags, collected the trash and then separated and weighed it at their base. You can comment on this event on the Project AWARE Flicker page. Make your comment

New Instructors
Our Course Director Rod has produced two more instructors that made full scores on the PADI IE keeping our high standards of instructor training. Well done to Piers and Dave. Thanks to Jon who is now an IDC Staff Instructor for all his help. We are holding and IDC in Aqaba Late November and will have an exam in Aqaba if we get enough numbers...that will be on 13th/14th December if it happens.

Kung Fin craze hits the Red Sea
The dangerous practice of Kung Fin has been spotted being practised by divers in the Red Sea. Dive Aqaba's spycam managed to catch these pictures of PADI professionals engaged in this dangerous new craze..don't try this at home kiddies. They were apparently training for the 2012 olympics when this will be a new discipline. Watch the video!

Rod will be conducting another IDC for Dive the Gap at Red Sea Relax IDC centre in Dahab from 6th to 18th September in 2010. The program includes many extras - including a mock exam which has been a great stress reliever for candidates!

Nahla Hanna arranged a trip for a group of divers from Lebanon with Dive Aqaba. Everyone enjoyed themselves and great diving and good times were had by all. BBC Film Crew
Dive Aqaba hosted a BBC film crew for the underwater and water surface shots of a promotional BBC trailer. John McIntyre shot all the underwater shots with the help of Rod and Omar. Samer, our deck hand acted as a stunt double for swimming shots. Thanks also to the crew of Deep Blue dive boat who also assisted with the filming.

Suez Marine repairs & services diver, Rod Abbotson, started a survey of the area of the Yarmouk berth that is used by the ferries to Egypt. The first transect crossed the ferry ramp that was lost in 2008. Trimix Tmx18/30 was used for the survey dive with EANx40 and EANx80 for decompression. The survey will be completed in several more dives over the next few days. Aqaba Diving Services

Dive Aqaba team member Amanda Krugen completed her Tec 40 course under the new PADI Tec Rec system, she is now going on to complet both Tec45 and Tec50 courses in between running recreational courses as a PADI Instructor. The GAF underwater breathing system was tested to a depth of 62m. This was the parameter for the testing as the unit, designed in Australia by Chris Kennedy, with the purpose of taking underwater photos at these depths. Advanced Wreck Course Approved
We have now had approval from PADI to teach the new Advanced Wreck Diver course written as a TecRec course by our technical instructor trainer, Rod Abbotson. The course will be conducted on the wrecks of the Cedar Pride, Taiyong and Shorouk in Aqaba. After a complete rebuild from bottom to top our dive boat has finally arrived back in Aqaba. She has a new extended dive deck giving ample space for 16 divers to kit up. The sun deck on top have also been extended - so plenty of space to rest between dives. A new deck level toilet has been fitted. With an engine rebuild and complete rewiring she now cruises at 12 knots piloted from a new flying bridge. See more photos of the boat

After James proposed to Erin at New Year in Wadi Rum they decided to exchange vows underwater on the last day of diving on their holiday. Once again Ashraf performed the ceremony underwater and organised the grooms party. Enas helped the brides party get ready. When everyone was appropriately attired they all entered the water. They have both been visiting for several years and gained their Divmaster certifications with us completing our internship programme.
